Choosing The Right Hair Colour:

Do A Patch Test:
Always carry out a patch test at least 48 hours prior to using hair colour to make sure you don’t experience a reaction to the colour. This usually involves dabbing a small amount of the colour behind your ear or on the inside of your elbow.
Keep Your Hairline Clean:
Slather some vaseline down your hairline where you don’t want to get any colour. This will stop the skin from staining which can take days to get off. It’s one of the smartest tips on how to colour your hair, says Nivedita.
- Before you start, make sure your hair is untangled
- Use the sectioning comb to section your hair into four sections
- With the help of a brush or an applicator, deposit the product on the hair
- Always start with your roots because they are the most visible, hence need full processing time. Then comb through to the ends
- Distribute the product evenly with a wide-tooth comb
Washing Off Your Hair:
Follow the instructions for the processing time, and once the time is up, rinse out with lukewarm water initially. And when you are shampooing your hair, make sure you use a colour protect shampoo as any other shampoo would cause the colour to leach out. Follow it up with the conditioner or a hair mask that comes with the box. This helps add softness and shine to your locks.
Pro tip: After you have coloured your hair, try to wait at least 2 days before you wash your hair again. This will help the colour set in well and minimises colour bleeding.

The final part of mastering how to colour your hair at home is to keep up with all the hard work you put in. It’s important that you protect it with quality products to keep it radiant long after you’ve coloured it. Nivedita advises to shampoo, condition and mask once a week and use a leave-in conditioner or with an oil treatment(optional) twice a week.
And with that, happy colouring!
