How To Use A Face Mask Properly

It seems like no one can get enough of face masks. The thin sheet of cloth or paper, rich in skin-nourishing serum has become a cult favourite among beauty and skin care hoarders. These newfound skin saviours, however, can prove ineffective if you don’t use them the right way. So, we decided to break down the face mask ritual into three easy steps for you to follow.

Step 1: Pre-application – What to do before using a face mask?
Face masks are rich in serum, so to make the most out of what they have to offer, it’s ideal that you use them on a well-cleansed face. If your face is laden with makeup, use a cleansing lotion or makeup remover and rinse thoroughly with water. Else, a gentle facewash would do. Once cleansed, pat dry gently.

Step 2: During application – What to do when you’ve put it on?
Take a power nap, watch your favourite series on Netflix, or bake your favourite cake! These sheet masks are mess-free so you can do almost anything with them on your face. Make sure you smooth out the mask evenly (the sheets are shaped like the human face and have slits around the eye area, nose, mouth, and the outer edges for ease of use). Also, pay attention to how long you leave it on. Different brands have different durations, so read the instructions on the pouch to see whether they’re to be worn for 10, 15, 20 or more minutes.

Step 3: Post Application – What to do after the time’s up?
This is the most important step of them all, and one that many of us get wrong (we’re all so used to face masks and packs that need to be rinsed away, so who’s to blame?). The liquid that gets left behind on your face is the nourishing serum. This needs to be gently patted or massaged into your skin, and not washed off unless you want all that effort to go waste!

So, the next time you want to get that glow back onto your face in a jiffy, pick a face mask. Also, be sure to follow these steps and extract the best out of what it has to offer!
