Met Gala 2021: Best Beauty Round Up

It might not be the first Monday of May, but the Met Gala is welcome any time of the year, isn’t it? Cancelled due to the pandemic last year, and delayed for the same reason this year, the Met Gala is an annual fashion fiesta that never ceases to surprise. Freshening up fall this time, the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art showcased some of the most stunning looks we’ve seen since life was upturned by a life-threatening virus.

The theme this year was In America: A Lexicon Of Fashion and though every outfit and look from the night deserves a place in fashion archives, we are partial to some. Check out our favourites.

Gigi Hadid
Did you know fiery red hair and pastel blue eyeshadow pair like BFFs? Well, now you do. Channelling old Hollywood glamour in a white Prada column gown with a red high ponytail and cat-eyes, Gigi wasn’t as elaborate as the others but as elegant as we’d like. The makeup was all done using Maybelline products in case you’d like to recreate the look for your next night out.

Naomi Osaka
One of the co-chairs of the gala this year, this mental health advocate and tennis star served an ace on the red carpet just as effortlessly as she does on the court. Her colourful corseted dress inspired by her Haitian and Japanese heritage set our jaw-dropping just as much as her sculpted hair adorned with red stones and floral details.

Billie Eilish
The ‘Bad Guy’ singer surprised the world by transforming into a pretty bombshell for the night. Another co-chair of the gala, Billie shed her tomboy looks and ushered glamour into her world with an Oscar De La Renta gown. A tousled bob, bold eyeliner and red lips highlighted her face and whole lotta jewellery—her fingers.

Lil Nas X
More clothes, less makeup was Lil Nas’s mantra for this fashionable night. His multiple outfit changes (reminiscent of Lady Gaga’s last Met gala appearance) were ornate and beautiful but he kept his makeup minimal. Highlighting just the corners of his eyes with gold eyeliner, he taught us that not everything has to be OTT. We’ve taken notes.

A Met gala post is incomplete without the mention of queen Ri. This year Rihanna dumbfounded us with an edgy, monochromatic Balenciaga overcoat, oxblood lips and a very colourful A$AP Rocky on her side. Her makeup was done using her very own line of Fenty beauty products and the bling was added by Bvlgari. You may go ahead and add this to your iconic fashion look-book.

Kim Kardashian
Inspiring more memes than fashion mentions, this look will be remembered with a chuckle in the fashion future. We might not have been able to see Kim K’s face but it was making a statement nonetheless. The all-black Balenciaga outfit was a stunner and rendered a whole new meaning to the term ‘Black Beauty’.
