CTEMP – What It Means and Why You Should Care

No, CTEMP is not a job listings website or some obscure and dangerous chemical ingredient.

CTEMP stands for cleansing, toning, exfoliation, moisturising, and protection from the sun or SPF. Following these five steps is a great way to ensure you are taking care of all your skin’s needs.

This basic routine is one step up from the cleanse, tone, moisturise routine that we previously wrote about in our beginner’s guide to skin-care. It includes two additional steps: exfoliation and protection.

Exfoliation goes a long way in giving you smooth and glowing skin. When you use an exfoliating product, it removes a thin layer of dead skin cells, revealing fresh, vibrant skin underneath. Experiment with how often you exfoliate- a gentle product can be used every day, or you can use a heavier duty exfoliator a couple of times a week.

Sun protection is essential, especially for our climate. You can choose a moisturiser with SPF and condense the two last steps of CTEMP into one, or if your moisturiser of choice doesn’t contain sun protection already, you can apply a layer of sun-protection cream as the last step of your daily routine. Choose an SPF of at least factor 20 to make sure you’re getting the protection you need. Ideally, your sunscreen should protect you from both UVA and UVB rays.

This routine should be customised for your skin’s specific needs through the types of products you choose for each step. Here are our picks for
