We all know that sunscreen is our number one protection against the UV rays and premature skin ageing. So it is important to apply a sunscreen daily whether you are going out or staying indoors. Here are some pointers on how you should apply sunscreen.
- Apply sunscreen to dry skin at least 15 to 30 minutes before going out in the sun. This allows your skin to bond well with the product particles
- A blob of sunscreen about the size of a Marie biscuit is enough to cover all the exposed part of your body
- Regardless of your skin type, sunscreen should always be used over your moisturiser and under your makeup
- If you are too prone to sweating and have oily skin, then use the sunscreen directly on your face before putting on your makeup
- When applying sunscreen, pay particular attention to the face, ears, hands and arms, back and feet and coat your skin liberally
- Don’t forget that lips get sunburned too, so apply a lip balm that contains sunscreen, preferably with SPF of 15 or higher
- Re-apply sunscreen after swimming or if you have perspired heavily. Even water-resistant sunscreens may lose their effectiveness after some time in the water
- Sunscreens rub off as well as wash off, so if you’ve towel-dried, reapply waterproof sunscreen for continued protection
- In fact, even on days when there is no sun, you are not safe from the harmful rays, so it is a great idea to keep using a sunscreen throughout the year, every time you hit the road
